!Hola querida familia!
This week was great! As usual, there were a lot of ups and downs, but there were so many little miracles that I was privileged to see this week. 🙂 I absolutely love this time that I have out here. The people here are wonderful! I just love the members here. They are trying so hard to be faithful and to help each other through this life. There are so many good things that are going to happen here!
One of the miracles I saw this week was related to finding people to teach. As a zone, we really focused on spending one hour every day – “power hour!” – to look for new investigators. One day, Hermana Lagunes and I decided that we’d fix an appointment with the Lord to be at a certain park at a certain time for that hour in order to find someone that He’d prepared. When we showed up, there was absolutely no one there. Trying not to be disappointed, we sat down a picnic bench to wait. It wasn’t long before we saw two kids walking home from school, and so we went and talked with them. After that, there was a group of about eight boys that came to the park to play ultimate frisbee, then even more to play basketball. We had plenty of people to talk to! We went around and talked with them, but none of them were interested. We ended up talking with a ton of people in that hour that we’d appointed as our finding time (I love Tucson! There are always people to talk to outside!) with no success. However, we felt good about our efforts because we knew we were fulfilling our purpose as missionaries and that the Lord was pleased with us. Just a few days later, while we were teaching one of our investigators named Suguey, two of her friends told us that we should come over to their house and teach them, too. We were overjoyed! At first, they hadn’t wanted anything to do with us; but the spirit had been working on their hearts and they were ready. I know that we were blessed with two new people to teach that day because of our continued diligence in trying to find the Lord’s elect.
I absolutely love the authority that this name tag gives me — being able to walk up to a complete stranger and hold a conversation with them about their life, their concerns, and this great news that we have about Christ’s restored Church. There’s no other thing like it, and this time is precious. All of you who are thinking about or preparing for a mission, know that it is completely worth it! Whatever sacrifice you have to make in order to come out here is completely vale la pena. Heavenly Father will “open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” You will never regret the time you spend out here and what you come to know and become. You will have so much joy in sharing something that is so precious to you with others. And for those of you who will not serve missions, you can do the exact same thing wherever you’re at and you will experience the same blessings!
I love you all!
Hermana Sutherland 🙂
