As you can see from the title, this week I will be coming up on nine months. I can’t believe it! Time has flown by so quickly! I have learned and grown so much since then, but it still feels like I should have a lot more time than that left in the mission. I don’t want to waste any of this time I have here.
There are a lot of good things happening in the Branch here! There was a baptism for a woman named Denisse Chu on Saturday. She and her two sweet little boys will be a great addition to the El Rio family. 🙂
We had some miracles this week! One of my favorite ones was Bill. We’d come into contact with him a few times before, but had never had a real conversation with him until this week. Every time we’ve seen him, he’s been out by the dumpster behind our apartment. As it would turn out, he goes through the trash a few times every week to find and recycle the cans — for fun! This is his hobby! He stops by multiple apartment complexes a week and then gets money for the cans from the city. Anyway, we got to talking to him one time this week about the Book of Mormon. Like most of the hispanic people here, he is devout Catholic but only attends Church twice a year. This is one of my most favorite experiences because of the way we were able to talk to him about the gospel. He has a lot of misconceptions about the gospel, but because we were bold and loving with him, he has come to understand that the things he has believed all his life might be wrong if the Book of Mormon is true. He has such a good heart; as a two-time veteran, he has been through and seen a lot. He has a lot of questions. I love teaching people like this! He is willing to be taught and does the things we ask him to so that he can find the answers to his questions for himself. Bill was definitely prepared to receive the message of the gospel at this time in his life. Because of the way we divide up the area with the other Elders here (there are two other sets — Elders Tyler and Williams, and Elders Smith and Tayler, our zone leaders), the zone leaders are going to teach him, but we are excited to see him progress! I know that he will come along. 🙂
I know that Heavenly Father loves us and is aware of us and our needs! This week Hermana Field and I had only about 70 cents left on our cards combined, and we were worried about how we’d make it through last week and this coming week, but we have been blessed in the most unusual ways with leftovers (we’ve received enough to last just long enough), supplies, and just enough money to buy milk, bread, and toilet paper this week. I know that He is watching over all of you in your unique circumstances and that He wants to bless you. He loves you!
