Wasn’t Conference just great this weekend? We were so richly fed by all the talks! I wish I had the time to share all the things I learned with you, but I will just have to summarize a few. 🙂 However, I would first like to share with you a little part of the letter that President Passey sent us this week. I think he did a good job of describing how we can use what we all learned.
“When the Savior visited the Nephites after His resurrection, He met the faithful surviving saints on the grounds of the temple, greeted them and then taught fundamental doctrines and principles that we now study in 3 Nephi. As we ponder the messages of this weekend’s general conference, I encourage us to apply the counsel that Jesus gave: “Therefore, go ye unto your homes, and ponder upon the things which I have said, and ask of the Father, in my name, that ye may understand, and prepare your minds for the morrow, and I come unto you” (3 Nephi 17:3).
While we will not be taught by the Savior personally, we can all ponder on the words of His living prophets and apostles and we can be guided by the Spirit to apply truths we heard this weekend to the work of salvation in the coming weeks. I always look forward to conference talks being posted online and then being published in the Ensign and Liahona. These talks will provide the basis for sacrament meeting talks, Relief Society and Melchizedek Priesthood quorum lessons for the next six months. I encourage each of us to review these talks and know what modern prophets have said. ”
One thing I would like to mention from conference is that we really are privileged to know that we can receive personal revelation! Ever since Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ came to Joseph Smith in the sacred grove, the heavens have been opened again. How incredible is it that when we have a question – no matter how insignificant it may seem – we can ask the grand Creator of this earth and He will give us a personal answer? We can ask Him at any time – He’s never too busy or on hold. He is all powerful and knows all things. And, what’s more, He WANTS us to ask Him! He wants to bless us with knowledge and understanding. He wants to enlighten our minds. “The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth” (DyC 93:36). We, as His children, have the potential to someday be like our Heavenly Father who has a fulness of that light. Que maravilloso es eso! I loved the talks by President Uchtdorf, President Eyring, and Elder Anderson that touched on this. I feel that I have been learning more than ever how to seek and receive personal revelation. It really is just a matter of truly desiring, asking, and listening! I would like to re-issue the challenge that Elder Anderson made- that is, to obtain a personal witness (for the first time or again) that Joseph Smith was a prophet. I would invite you to study his life; study his story, and study the prophecies made about him by ancient prophets in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Then, when you feel ready, and when you feel that you truly “hunger” for an answer, ask Heavenly Father. Then wait. Pay attention to the little thoughts and feelings that you have. Be patient. Heavenly Father gives us answers in His own time, and so sometimes that means that we need to be diligent and keep searching for an answer. I know it will come!
I am going to do this challenge, and I would love to hear about your experiences. I’ll share mine. Now, take the things that you’ve learned from this conference and “go and do!” Make goals and plans as to how you will apply the additional knowledge that Heavenly Father has given you.
One more thing. I want to share with you an experience we had this week, but I don’t have time to write it so I’m going to give you the spanish version I sent President Passey. I hope it works with Google Translate!
I love you all!
Hermana Sutherland 🙂
